Why does my compressor over heat on atlas copco drill.

by Dustin
(Tenn.)

The compressor on my atlas copco drill over heats very fast, i drill one hole and the compressor shut down. I have changed the filters, cleaned the coolers and change the compressor oil and it still over heats. Do you know what is causing this?

Atlas Copco overheating when drill used

It may be the thermostat in the compressor. Check the temps of the oil in and out of the cooler. It should be pretty hot going in and coming out, it will drop 30 degrees.

If it is not going into the cooler, you probably have a thermostat not opening, or a block in the cooler. Or low oil level.

Did you change the oil filter? I have seen them over heat because the oil filter was clogged. We are an Atlas Copco service center. You can call any time. (See contact information on the USA compressor service page - Moderator )We can get the correct parts and diagnose the problem over the phone usually.

What compressor and drill?

You lube the drill, right?
