Want to wire my Binks Compressor

by Kevin
(Petaluma, Ca)

Just inherited a Binks compressor and want to know how to wire it and what materials I need.

Model # 33-1142 / 1 1/2 h.p. motor

Can I use a 2 pole 40 amp breaker at the panel box running #10 wire and install a manual starter ?

U Can Use Dryer Outlet to wire Binks
by: Oogmuk

If 220V Wired, U Can Use Dryer Outlet.

My 33-1142 has a 1-1/2 hp Craftsman motor, wired for 220.

A double 20 amp breaker will handle this easily.

No motor starter on mine, just a dpst toggle switch. Note that (at least on mine) this unit DOES NOT shut off when pressure is reached. There will be a slight "pop" sound as the unloader takes over, and the compressor then free wheels until the pressure drops to cut-in point. This lets it deliver more air for spray painting, etc., as the motor is always running and turning the pump.

The pump should be a Quincy 216, and valves and other parts are available. Cut out pressure point is controlled by a color-coded spring, and should be between 130 and 150 psi.

Still a very good little compressor.

The breaker's overkill, but sure.

It's 240V?

What do you mean by manual starter? As opposed to a pressure switch, or?
