unloader valve scfm rating for gas powered air compressor

by Will Shand

Hi, I have 2 questions

1) I have a gas compressor that has a 6.8 and 8.5 cfm rating
I have found several unloader valves on line but none of them
have that cfm rating, my question is can I use a higher cfm rated unloader?

2) I started having a erratic engine speed after the compressor got up to pressure, the engine would go to high speed and the cable from the unloader valve would shutter quickly back and forth

I took the valve apart and noticed that when I took off the outlet port that goes into the tank I noticed that there was a white plastic piece that was on a spring and the piece piece was distorted and it wasnt fitting on to the stem under the spring

I'm assuming that had something to do with the engine speed problem

so I decided to just get another unloader valve but cant find one with the same cfm rating. Could i use a 30 cfm rated valve with my compressor?

Thanks, Will

1. Typically, unloaders don't have cfm, as they only release a small amount of air.

2. That does sound like a problem.

3. We don't know what you're talking about - like a model number, maybe? Pix if you can't find one?
Or, both.
You'll need to start over to post pix.
