sanborn B51 A24 80V1 compressor hard or no start

Tank would stop filling at 75 psi.

Did a lot of air grinding one day and compressor continually ran, Eventually it would not restart.

Looked at magnetic starter and some of the fuses were burnt. Screws were loose. Ordered a new magnetic starter, started compressor, ran for 5 minutes then died. Would not start.

Installed new pressure regulator, would still not start.

Removed motor and brought it to a compressor shop to have them test it. They said it was good. Reinstalled, would not run. Removed motor and brought it to a electric motor repair place. they disassembled and cleaned, hipot test the winding ,repaired the starter switch and tested. Reinstalled motor. Ran for 2 minutes about half normal speed and stopped.

Now it has faint humming sound from motor when I flap breaker to turn it on.

If the motor caps checked out...
by: Doug in s.d.ca.
