Old 2Z6308 air compressor needs oil

I have my Dads old air compressor and it has been setting for 15 years. Still runs good and only let it run for less than a minute.


It had been tilted to the side where the sprocket is coming out of the pump and oil ran out. Is this normal or would the seal be bad?

Also it's low on oil. I plan on changing the oil and need to know what kind of oil plus how many quarts I need.

The model number of the pump is 2Z6308. The 8 could also be a "B". Hard to tell.

 Leaking sprocket / shaft on compressor pump

Thanks for picking up on this Doug, I missed it in my response.

Yup, as Doug says, this is not supposed to happen so there is a bearing leak of some kind.

You mean the sheave or pulley? Or crankshaft?

Being on its side is not normal, so hard to say, but the cover/bearing journal probably is just loose.

I'm thinking it's a B at the end of the model number, not an 8, Larry.

Start with a quart, and since I believe this model has a sight glass in the sump, fill slowly until the oil reaches the mid-point of the dot.

Since it's a Speedaire air compressor, you can't go wrong buying their own oil. Visit Grainger on line and search for compressor oil.
