Oiling Speedaire 3Z323 motor?

by chip farnsworth

I acquired a Speedaire 3Z323 with a Dayton 1hp motor #9K322 and wondering if the motor and or bearings need oiling. I haven't been able to locate any ports/sleeves, thanks!

Thanks for response Doug, took belt guard off and looked closely at motor...no ports.

"Motor tag reads 'annual bearing lubrication sleeve - sae 10-oil (don't over fill) ball grease ** when plug is provided. **"

I suspect yours isn't provided.

Maybe when you can snag a camera - it's not critical unless you're running it hard.

Can't find that motor's specs. Or you could try Dayton.

Oil motor - who's Rick?
by: Bill

Don't know who Rick is... :-)

Anyway, look at the shaft where it enters the motor. There is typically a bearing there, and if it is user serviced, there should be a small hole on the side of the bearing.

Same on the rear of the motor.

Not knowing what your motor looks like, sorry, cannot be more specific.

Thanks for reply Rick, would that port be near the pulley where the belt is attached?

On some motors, there is a small port on the side of the bearing, typically with a flip cap, into which you put 3-4 drops of oil very infrequently.

Are you saying your motor bearings have no obvious access for oil?

If so, then I would suspect that the motor has been changed out from the original to one that has sealed, lube for life, bearings.

Thanks for reply Doug, currently don't have a camera but tank plate reads 'lubricate motor bearings every 6 months (sleeve brgs. only).'

Motor tag reads 'annual bearing lubrication sleeve - sae 10-oil (don't over fill) ball grease when plug is provided.

I don't really understand either readings. The serial # is AAF1E and model # is 9K322. If you have any additional info I'm all ears. Thanks, Chip

Oiling motor necessary?
by: Doug in s.d.ca.

Probably not, unless it's super old.

Generally, there's lube instructions on the motor name plate if that's required.

Send pix if you want to be more sure.
