Looking for the flow ratings for my Sanborn Black Max B109BL300-2

My Black Max is over 30 years old and is still working strong. I've started looking for a replacement. I'm unable to locate the SCFM ratings for my compressor. The 90 pound rating is the only one I would like to get.

What type oil does it take.

Compressor oil

Yours is another air compressor that offers, shall we say, optimistic HP in the rating.

With a 120 VAC supply it's virtually impossible to get a true 3 HP motor to run. That yours doesn't give a true HP rating is evident in the projected CFM. A "true" 3 HP motor can be expected to generated 10-12 CFM of compressed air at 90 PSI, way more than yours is specced for at 8.6 CFM at 40 PSI.

Regardless, if it supplied the air you need for your air tools, good!

As to oil, not many (any?) compressor manufacturers recommend motor oil for compressor lubrication as there are too many additives in that oil for the compressor. Visit your local big box store or compressor store, and acquire the product labelled as compressor lubricating oil. That's the only stuff you should use. And, you can sure get it on line as well.

As to the amount, the compressor is splash lubed, meaning it needs a goodly portion of oil in the sump to splash up onto the crank and cylinder as the compressor is running. Many compressors fill the sump to half way, and on those with a sight glass, that's to the middle of the dot in the center of the sight glass.

If you don't have one, and you still have oil in the sump, drain it all into an empty oil bottle to get a sense of how much is in there, and refill using that same amount of fresh oil.

That's what I would do, anyway.

If it's a 3HP, 8.6 SCFM @ 40 PSI
Model: B109BL 300-22-SWC
Motor HP: 3SPL
Voltage: 115, AMP:15.0, HZ: 60, Phase: One,
Tank/GAL: 22, Tank WP-Precision: 120 PSI,Stage:One,
Max Unit WP/Factory Setting-Faction Maxi-mate:
120/90-120 PSI
Hope this helps. I'm looking for which Oil to use.

Can't find any specs on this compressor, Larry.

Best I can do is to say you'll get 2-4 CFM at 90 PSI for each HP of compressor motor. That's the rule of thumb.

Specifics will vary. Maybe another with this model air compressor can provide details.
