I have the tank and consider building a compressor

I have a 120 gallon tank that was given to me and I want to build a compressor. I have the generals down but need to know about matching the pumps and motors rpms? Is this something that needs to be done?

When you purchase the pump, the specification sheet should tell you the requirements for HP and RPM.

Make sure the tank is rated for the pressure that it might see if the pressure switch fails and it is the PRV that blows off to stop over-pressurization.

And, depending on your compressed air requirements, consider if it make sense to purchase an appropriately sized compressor, and use the existing tank for additional compressed air storage. Might cost you a bunch more to build than buy.
