Husky Verti-zontal compressor

Husky Verti-zontal compressor

I have a Husky Verti-zontal unit made by Campbell Hausfeld.

The issue I initially had was air leak via the unloader valve.

I replaced the pressure switch including the unloader valve and the check valve as well.

After I first start it up it will fill to capacity. I use the air and the compressor never restarts. I have to unplug it for 20 mins and replug it back in, in order for her to start up again.

Can anyone help me?

I didn't do it, you did! Congratulations.

Glad to have been a small part of your success in diagnosing and fixing the issue which, I suspect, may have been a loose connection... but doesn't matter, as long as the compressor works!

Husky air compressor will not restart after first use

UPDATE

So I took apart the motor and checked the piston and all seems fine. Made sure all connections were nice and tight. Put it back together and now she is working perfectly fine.

Cuts in at 100PSI and cuts out at 130 with no issues. I wonder what it could of been? All I know is that I am a happy camper!

Thank you Bill for all your help!!!!

Yes the ferrules installed are those that go on the compression fittings.

I will diagnose the motor capacitor now. Although I do not see any capacitor visable on my motor.

Ferrules??
by: Bill

You said "Will those red ferrules cause the motor to run improperly or not to refill when air is used? "

Please identify on what the ferrules are installed? Are they wire connects for the pressure switch wires...?

To me, ferrules are the part that's inside a compression fitting, so I'm having a hard time figuring out what you replaced.

Thanks.

Did you check the compressor motor capacitor? I think that would be prudent. You can see the page on how to do that linked from the troubleshooting page on this site.

still not working after install of new ferrules
by: Victor

So today I received new ferrules after closer diagnosis 1 ferrule was really bad the other one was ok.

I switched both of them out with some new ones. I bought the exact ferrule for the compressor.

It takes around 4 mins to fill up to 60PSI, I used some air for a DA sander and It still will not restart on its own. I emptied the tank to see if it would restart and I get nothing. I still have to wait for 20 mins and plug it back in to start up.

any more ideas????????

Husky wl650702aj,
by: victor

Yes its a 1.5HP although the sticker says 1.7 - 5.5HP and yes it is a Husky wl650702aj as well.

I will try what you mentioned tonight when I get home from work.

Will those red ferrules cause the motor to run improperly or not to refill when air is used?

You might want to look at this thread:

https://www.about-air-compressors.com/husky-compressor-wl650702ai-shuts-down-at-60-psi-.html

Sounds familiar to your compressor issue.

Yours too is a Husky wl650702aj, correct?

If so, yours is not 1.5 - 5.5 HP even if so noted on the housing. It's a 1.5 HP compressor, and is powered by a 120 volt circuit, yes?

You cannot power a 5.5 HP on a 120 volt circuit, so there is no way that it's providing 5.5 HP of motor strength, unless you're powering it with a 240 volt circuit.

What was the cut in pressure and cut out pressure before you changed the pressure switch?

Empty the tank to zero PSI. Start the compressor, and assuming it does so, now what is the cut out pressure?

How long does it run to get from zero PSI in the tank to cut out?

Your comment about waiting 20 minutes before it starting again suggests a power issue, that resulting in an overheated motor, and the thermal cutout is functioning to prevent the motor restart until it cools so it does not become damaged.

Husky wont restart
by: Victor

My apologies for the confusion.

Initially the pressure switch was not adjusted when I received it. I installed the unit and ran it the same way I received it from eplacementparts.com.

Since the compressor never restarted after the first use of air, I gave the pressure switch 1 full turn clockwise and nothing really happened.I still have the same issue. Which is, it will fill up to whatever I set the regulator to but will not restart when I use air.

I have watched endless videos where there is a cut in & cut out screws to adjust but I cant seem to pin point where that is located on my pressure switch. Maybe am missing something?

You say "The pressure setting is the same as the switch came in. i just adjusted the pressure setting by 1 full turn and it started up".

Sorry, I'm confused.

On what did you adjust the pressure setting, please?

HUsky air compressor will not restart after first use

The unit is 1.7-5.5HP max, its plugged in to direct plug on its own. The pressure setting is the same as the switch came in. i just adjusted the pressure setting by 1 full turn and it started up, I used most of the air and the comp never came back on.

Replaced Husky pressure switch
by: Bill

What is the HP of the compressor?

Tell us about the extension cord or how far the unit is from the power source.

The unloader leak was likely the tank check valve leaking. Doubt if it was the pressure switch that was the problem.

Did you ensure that the cut in and cut out settings on the new switch were the same as the old?
