Gets to 60 psi and pressure gauge hits red?

Gets to 60 psi and pressure gauge hits red and decompressed?

I was just given my dads 125 psi 1hp 2 gal compressor. I set the regulator to 60 psi and I can get maybe 20-30 seconds before the pressure gauge hits red and decompresses. Then I have to wait for it to build pressure again to get another 20-30 seconds of use. Any suggestions?

If you're running a blowgun, that's about normal.

If not a blowgun, what tool are you using?

Also, following Bill's question, what is the pressure in the "red" to which you refer? Usually, red is high pressure, not low.

"Gets to 60 psi and pressure gauge hits red and decompressed?"

Are you talking about the tank gauge?

If the compressor is rated for 125 PSI, where are you seeing the " hits red "?

With your regulator set at 60 PSI, you get only half a minute of air, yes?

What are both gauges showing when it "decompresses" and what exactly is decompressing?

Please add more info.
