Could it be a part in the motor?
by: Doug in s.d.ca.

Not likely. But I suppose it could have a worn or broken bearing. Check for play on all the moving parts, shouldn't be much.

Is there a valve piece hanging in there? Is/was it making pressure?

Not the counterweight, thanks Doug

That’s what I thought. It seems to be solid. I can’t find any broken or loose parts. I’ve taken apart the majority of the piston, removed the cylinder. Everything seems fine. Could it be a part in the motor?

F226VWD/585-819 Counterweight

Look here:

Item 58 - goes on the motor shaft to balance out the piston.

They call it an Eccentric, but I don't think it actually is eccentric, so not sure why they call it that. Anyway, those sometimes break due to poor design.

Where is the Counterweight?
by: Ric

Hey Doug, I don't see any seal broken loose. Where is the counterweight?

knock

If you're lucky, it's just a worn piston seal. If you remove the shroud, you can probably see up the cylinder (might need to use a small mirror) - the rubber part should go evenly all around the piston. Sometimes it tears or rolls up over the piston. That's if it's not the fan flopping around...

Less lucky would be if the counter-weight has broken off.

Let us know, please, and good luck.
