Drainage of tank

by Ulf

i have pressure in the tank and when i open the drain screw under the tank i get some water to come out but i lose no air pressure.

Earlier i always got a lot of air (read all of the air) to escape from the tank when doing this.

What is it that's wrong? I think i can hear water inside the tank when gently rocking it, but it will not come out, only a little amount comes out.

Tank draining

Sounds like you'll probably want to open the drain quite often for a while, to void the tank completely.

Also, I tend to leave my tank drain open if my compressor is not going to be used for some time.

Cheers, and thanks for the come back.

Yep, the screw was removed complety and i poked a nail in there and got a lot of rust and water to escape. Thanks!

Tank drain

Ulf, you've opened the drain before, so you know which way to turn the knob to get full tank drainage.

I suspect that you've a lot of crud in the compressor tank, and that's essentially plugged the drain.

With a full charge of pressure, opening the drain and gently rocking the compressor may help.

If not, a small wooden pick to stick up into the tank through the drain may help too. Make sure you wear work gloves doing this.

No luck? Use the PRV to drain the tank with the compressor off, and remove and clean the tank drain, or replace it.

Recharge the compressor tank and then drain it fully from the tank drain until all condensate is voided.
