by Peter Mevo

I have written to you about this problem (trying to rotate (sluggish)) and asked if there was an internal switch. I have replaced ON/OFF pressure s/w also capacitators (uploader working). I decided to strip the unit down and found there is which I think could be a fuse not sure if it is THERMAL FUSE the number on this unit ( BW 140J 5amp 250volt) other markings (COC. hy. VDE.) The "internal switch" BW 140J is a thermal protector
by: Doug in s.d.ca.

You can find the spec for that here:

http://thermoswitch.sell.everychina.com/p-98949500-bw-thermal-protector-250v-5a.html

Code 140 means it opens at 140℃±5℃ and resets (closes) at 05±12℃.

You could bypass it, but that would probably just allow it to smoke.

Did you replace both capacitors?

If you've torn it down, does the motor work without the piston(s) attached?

Internal switch in a AS196 twin cylinder compressor?

by Peter

Is there an internal switch in a AS196 twin cylinder compressor (capacitors)

I've replaced the POWER ON/OF switch, not sure about the capacitors. When switch on the motor hums and tries to turn very slowly but doesn't do a full revolution. My son got the AS196 from his works because it was not working. The unit was tested in 2014 and passed.

Internal switch

Nice little machine!

Well, yes there is a pressure switch.
Do you have the manual? Get it here:

https://www.wiltec.de/media/manuals/34/34209/EN/Anleitung_Kompressor_34209_AS196_en.pdf

But you should check item 33, condenser (AKA capacitor).

If that's OK, then, if it still has trouble starting, check item 45, "none return valve".

Most likely one or both those are the problem.

Let us know, and good luck.
