DeVilbiss 5 hp pump slows down

by John

when it starts it runs fine till it gets to about 60 lbs then the pump slows down but the motor keeps running the belt starts making noise and then it will start pumping again? It will do this five or six times before it gets up to pressure.

Pump slow down

I have experienced the same problem. It's not a belt problem that I am sure. Mine does it only sometimes until the pump seemed to just lock up. I let it sit and drained the tank. It runs again but won't build pressure past 50psi. When it locked up I could hear air pissing out of my crank case vent with no end in site. It's a model 240 2 stage inline pump

'Twould be nice to know the model #...and how old the thing is.

But, I'll assume this is a piston compressor: clearly the belt is either maladjusted, greasy, or shot.

Check tension, inspect for cracks and glazing (shiny, hard, smooth spots).

If loose, check motor mount and adjust, or replace belt.
