cold starting

Hello I've been reading through the trouble shooting page but am not familiar with the parts such as capacitor unloaded valve etc.

My problem is it won't start when cold it will hum at first then if I turn off the compressor switch and back on it will start to turn over slowly then every time after that it spins faster and eventually starts after about fifteen tries.

After I've got it going it will start flawlessly every time but as soon as it cools down it will not start.

I'm testing it in a 50 degree garage and any help would be much appreciated.model am78 hca serial 091796413

Compressor cold starting

Matt, the purpose of this site is to help people understand how their air compressors work and some fundamental information for problem diagnosis.

All of the information you have asked for is already here on the site. You just have to search a bit for it and read it.

Since the information is already here for everyone to use, I cannot repeat all of it here on a case by case basis to answer an often asked series of questions.

However, if your power supply is good - see the pages on this site that define that - I would suspect you may have a weak start capacitor if the garage is 50 deg. F. If it is colder than that, you may just need to warm up the compressor to get it to start satisfactorily.
