Cleaning the inside of the tank on a Ingersoll-Rand Model 4 E 14

I have an Ingersoll-Rand Model 4 E 14 air compressor. it is about 25 years young....
Yeaterday i decided to service it a littel bit as I noticed that the belt guard was broken.
I remove most of the easy part of it but I am not sure how to remove the back of the guard behing the wheel.

Can someone please assist me?

Also, when I drained the tank I foung a lot of dirty water in there it was in fact a muddy /rusty water.
With the valve completely ogff I run the compressor for about 10 minutes and the air was running claen from ther but.

Is there any need for me to clean the inside of the tank and if so could you please advise the proper way to do it?

With many thanks and best Regards.

Rand 4E14 User Manual
by: Big Kev

Hi, I own an Ingersoll Rand 4e14 which is approximately 34 years young and I need a user manual to check the oil type I need and any other maintenance items I need to consider other than the air filter. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

( Thanks for your comment Big Kev, though it seems to be about a different compressor problem than the original post. Please start a new post here: and we will try to get you some answers about your specific compressor problem. - Moderator )

tank cleaning

Not really needed, but if you're so inclined, you could rinse it out and slosh some sort of sealant around in it to help prevent further rust.

I'm not finding a good detail of the guard, but a close inspection should reveal the answer. Post pix of it if you like...

Me again, Excuse the various typo in my previous message.
I now have taken pictures of my compressor and I shall post them as soon as I have transferred them on my PC.
Thanks and have a good day
