Champion NR 150 with 7.5 HP 3Ph too big?

by Don J

I have a Champion NR 150 with a 3ph 7.5 HP motor. I'm thinking this is a bit over kill as the motor is almost the size of the compressor itself. What would an appropriate size be?

I would just use it as is, but not having 3phase in my shop I am restricted to 220.

7.5 HP?

Depends on how it's "geared". What's the motor and pump RPM? Any clue what the cut-out pressure is?

They will run on as little as 1 HP, but then it's limited pressure or speed (CFM), your choice.

Sorry I can't find a spec on it, but you might try calling Gardner-Denver.
