Bill,

Last week I plugged in my air compressor(Stanley Bos CAP2060P) and I noticed that it burnt the end of the plug.

I am pretty handy and have a background in HVAC.

I took off the cover and I noticed the Capacitor had cracked and a liquid had hardened.

I checked it with my Fluke meter and it showed it was bad.

I ordered 2 caps and installed and how I have no working air compressor. Have any clues or tests I could preform. Could I have wired the caps wrong? I checked today and they are still good. Please help!!!

Rudy, unless you did something weird with the power supply to the compressor, I suspect what happened is that the cap burnt out due to current draw on the motor start up.

That's a pretty dramatic result, to have a small air compressor pull so much amperage that it melts the plug prongs and fries a cap.

I'm not an electrical guy, but even with my limited experience, if this were my Cap 2060 compressor, I'd be looking for a short in the motor.

Cheers,

Bill

CAP 2000 compressor won't start
by: Bill

Hard to be specific with so little to go on.

Start by emptying the tank, then closing the tank drain.

Check to see if there is there power at the plug.

Try to start the CAP 2000 air compressor.

If it will not start with the tank empty, check to see if power is getting past the pressure switch to the motor circuit.

Post findings as a comment here.

won't start troubleshooting

this bostitch cap-2000p-of hadn't run in 2 years, but I hadn't needed it- finally got curious enough to check it out. struggled with getting the case open, and when I did noticed the electrical connectors between the switch and motor were loose, and it started up when pushed tight - I shut it right down, and have emptied the tank of very muddy water-
Now it doesn't start, although I get power to the motor-
