Can I use Champion R15B Flywheel

I need to replace the compressor pump on my 5HP 3ph air compressor. I have access to a new Champion R15B pump (at a great price)....however...the pump does NOT have a flywheel.

I've read that the Champion has a 1 5/16" tapered crankshaft for attachment. This is the same diameter as my old (LaPlante LPV8060) tapered it appears that the tapered crank ends are similar.

It appears from the pictures, however, that the Champion flywheel attaches with a clamping style, whereas my old flywheel attaches using a capscrew and large flatwasher which threads into the end of the crankshaft.

If the Champion doesn't have a threaded hole in the end of the crank.....I'm worried that the old flywheel won't work.

Will I be able to use my old flywheel (which attaches with a cap screw/washer bolted into the end of the crankshaft)....with the Champion R15B?

How hard is the steel in a crankshaft?

If it's still relatively "soft", there'd be no trouble drilling and tapping it for a bolt. If the crank was hardened...that'd be a different story.

Anybody know?

If the taper is the same (or you can make a bushing).

If you're prepared to drill and tap a hole in the pump shaft.
