Campbell Hausfeld 200 psi air compressor won't pressure up

by Rene
(Spring Tx)

My 200 psi air compressor won't pressure up. it gets to about 90 psi and cuts off. If i bleed the pressure off it will not start up again. I need to unplug it and wait a while. It is a campbell hausfeld.

Compressor pressure

Good that you aren't using an extension cord.

If the symptoms are new, you may be developing a bad run capacitor if, in fact, power is still flowing to the motor circuit but the motor has stopped.

It's likely stopped due to thermal overload, and that's typically a power issue.

When i plug it in and turn it on it starts pressuring up. When it reaches around 90 psi it stops.

I will have to check with my meter when i return home.

No I am not using an extension cord.

Campbell Hausfeld no pressure

Hi Rene. When you say "it gets to about 90 psi and cuts off" it would be good to know if the power supply is still crossing the pressure switch to motor circuit side of the switch? You'd want a voltage probe or multi-meter to determine that.

Reason being, if the power is still crossing the switch, but the motor is not running, that says it's not the pressure switch that's the problem.

I wonder if the motor is going off on thermal cut out? Are you using an extension cord by any chance?
