Brute compressor won't start, it hums and trips reset ?

It was working fine, then when it called for air, the motor hummed, and the reset button popped. I tried it repeatedly, after letting all the air pressure go, it just hums and the reset button pops.

There is no pressure in the tank, and it is plugged into it's own dedicated 20 amp outlet, and no extension cord.

I'm thinking the armature could have shorted out.

Humming and tripping reset

As compressors age, and unfortunately even on some new ones, components fail.

Your Brute compressor issue sounds like it's power related, and that could mean the start capacitor is or has failed.

Before seeing the video on this site about how to check them, maybe visit the troubleshooting page, scroll down to the link about compressors that "hum", and have a look. Things to check are there.

When done, if you still have a question, please add it as a comment here.

It would be good to know the model number of your Brute compressor too!
