Breaker has blown several times - will not reset

I have a central pneumatic compressor with a 25 gal tank. It blew the breaker several times and now there is no resistance on the breaker button and it will not reset.

It's typically a power issue. Given that it runs without load, make sure you are plugging the compressor right into the socket, not extension cord.

If that doesn't resolve it, it's time to check the capacitor. See how on the page on this site.

Central Pneumatic 90221 breaker pops

Starts & runs slowly for a few seconds, then compressor breaker pops. Runs at full speed when starting with tank drain valve opened some. Shut tank valve & air builds to full. Replaced pressure switch and check valve -- same result.

Breaker on compressor

That is, I expect, a thermal cut out switch, and it is on the motor, yes?.

if so, it's factory set to cut power to the motor if it senses the motor is overheating.

That pushing the button will not allow it to reset suggests that the switch itself has failed.

Look on the motor for an info plate, a Google replacement thermal cut out for motor XXXX.

If the reset is not on the motor, please advise.

Just to be sure, we are talking about the breaker in the panel and not on the compressor?
