Bostitch cap2000 how to remove plastic shroud?

I have a bostitch cap2000-of and I need to replace the pressure regulator. In order to do this I need to remove the plastic shroud from the top of the air compressor.

I have removed all the phillip screws and now there are two "tie rods" that I am unable to remove. I have used a standard screw driver and it does turn but it goes through to the other half of the plastic shroud and I can see it there just turning. It never seems to loosen up. How do you remove these tie rods/screws.
Good question. I know the manufacturer's like to make their air compressors pretty, but gosh, these plastic shrouds are a royal pain when you need to get to a user-serviceable part.

I have not done it on a Bostitch, I hope someone else has and can offer assistance.

By the way, when you get it off, can you just leave it off? Just beware that it might be covering parts that can get painfully hot if you touch them.

Like everyone else has mentioned. Use a 5/16" driver to remove the 2 long bottom bolts. You have to unscrew from the nut side, not the side that looks like you would use a straight blade screw driver. Also the shroud is easier to remove if you take off the brass fitting where the air hose connects. One other thing. I thought my pressure switch was bad. Turns out it is adjustable and mine was just out of adjustment. After you remove the shroud, you can remove the plastic cover on the pressure switch and there is an adjustment bolt that sticks out, has a 10mm head. There are + - indicators stamped near the bolt so you can tell which way increases max pressure and which way decreases.

bostich c-300 compressor belt replacement

The 5/16ths nut driver worked fine with the flat head screw driver, the shroud came right off after the bolts were out. Then remove the squirrel cage with a flat screw driver and some pressure against the flywheel. then the set screw on the piston shaft is loosened with a Allen wrench and then the piston will pop off in like manner. Ready for new belt, lube the piston ring with compressor oil and re-assemble.

Removing plastic shroud

I just used the 5/16" driver to back the tie rod out. I could not get the nuts to budge with a flat head screw driver. Once the tie ords were loosened and removed the nuts fell out.

5/16 driver and a flat head

Use the 5/16 driver to secure the head of the bolt, then back out the nut on the other end with a flat head screwdriver. You will need a wire hanger or a small and long punch to knock the bolt out of the other side.
