just bought 8 gal, oil lubricated compressor yesterday. it does not cycle automatically, just continues to build tank pressure until the pop-off valve opens. is this something that can be adjusted or is the unit defective and need to be returned. it appears to be dangerous as is

Automatic compressor shut off
by: Bill

Hi Richard. You've posted this under the Central Pneumatic forum, so it's a Harbor Fright... er... Harbor Freight compressor, yes?

Be good to know the model for other person's interest, but regardless, if the compressor starts from an empty tank and runs until the PRV lets go, and that PRV / tank pressure is above where the compressor is supposed to shut off, then take it back! Get a new one. Even if it's only a mis-set pressure switch, that's not supposed to happen.
