Air pressure not holding up with tools

by Pascal

I have a Central Pneumatic 8 Gal. 2HP, 125 PSI, 4.5 CFM @ 90 PSI.

Whether I am using an impact wrench, a tire inflating chuck or a blow gun, the tool will work fine at full power for 2 or 3 seconds, and then the pressure will quickly die down. After I wait about 30 seconds, it will work again at full power for another couple of seconds, and die down, etc....

The compressor build up pressure fine, tank fills within about 2 minutes, there are no leaks, and tank pressure is stable, what can be the issue the prevents air tool from working at full power for periods longer than a few seconds?

Air pressure - regulator?
by: Bill

That issue sounds like a failed or failing pressure regulator, Pascal.

Remove the regulator (compressor off and tank empty) and install the discharge coupler directly to the air line from the tank. Let the compressor run up to cut out. Attach the air tool and see what happens when you run it. Does that fix the issue?

If so, it's likely the regulator and you should replace it so that you can operate your air tools at the recommended pressure for them, as opposed to full tank pressure.
