Will a 3/8 air hose with 3/8 npt get more air flow than a 3/8 air hose with 1/4 npt?

Fitting air flow
by: Bill

Daniel, if the 3/8" ID air hose has a 1/4" NPT fitting on the end, and the hole in that fitting is a smaller I.D. than the air hose itself, then yes, it will restrict air flow somewhat.

If the 3/8" I.D. air hose has a 3/8" I.D. pathway through it, then it will not.

However, depending on the make fittings I.D.'s do change.

There's a page on this site about pressured drop in air lines and fittings that explains this further.
