compressor will not restart unless tank depressurize.

I have a 120v portable Caulfield 100psi air compressor that will not start. All connections are good no sign of rust.
________________
Kenny, is the compressor a Campbell Hausfeld? What is the model number?
When you say it won't start, what is or is not happening? Is there air in the tank? If so, what pressure is it? Is there power to the compressor?
Please give me more information to try and help.
Cheers,
Bill

I was using my air compressor, a brute model 074004, and out of nowhere it just turned off. this is my first air compressor I have owned and don't know much about them. I tried to disconnect it and restart it, but it still didn't work. I tried to release all the air and turn it on, but that didn't work either. Any ideas as to what it can be?
Thanks, Arnold.

Arnold, I'm sure you've checked to be sure that you have power to the socket into which you have plugged your air compressor?
If you are using a power bar or extension cord, that isn't good for compressor motors. Always plug the compressor directly into a socket, preferably one that is not being used by other appliances.
If that makes no change, then you need to determine if power is actually getting past the pressure switch to the motor circuit. That means using a multi-meter to check voltage before and after the switch. Do this with the tank empty, to be sure that the pressure switch has tripped to "passing".
If power is flowing to the motor circuit, then that says the pressure switch is OK, and the next likely culprit will be the compressor motor start capacitor.

My single phase 1hp 240 air compressor will not start on its own, I have to roll the pulley to get the motor started. Any ideas?

Rather than re-type all the info that's on the page, Gary, see the troubleshooting section on the sitemap page, follow the link to the page with info, and check out the compressor based on what you read.
It would also help to know the make and model of the air compressor, so that others that may have the same one can chime in.
Cheers,
Bill
