Air compresser only working on one outlet.

I have an air compressor that will only work on one outlet in my garage. I tried plugging it into other outlets in the garage, in our barn, and into our generator and it still won't run. Only will run on the one outlet in the garage. It is an 110volt. It doesn't make any sense why it will only work on the one outlet. I think it is a Coleman powermate.

Any suggestions or answers as to why this is happening would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

What Bill said -

Although, at least in newer construction, a typical outlet circuit will be 20A, while 15A breakers are usually used for lighting.

A garage outlet circuit will often be 20A and have a socket to match, with only one (double) outlet on the circuit, for a washer and dryer.

Sorry, but I have to ask, you do have power getting to the other outlets you tried, yes?

And, all other outlets are on the same breaker / fuses or different breakers? If different breakers, is the one that works a 15 amp and the others lesser amperage?

If all on the same breaker, I would surmise that it's a 15 amp breaker (if not it should be) and your compressor start capacitor is getting weak. For an assortment of reasons regarding power feed, this one outlet has the cleanest power with the shortest run from the power source, and has enough amperage to kick over the motor. The others don't.

Just my .02 cents worth. Others?
