919.165570 motor hums/buzzes when plugged in

I have a Craftsman upright air compressor, model no. 919.165570. This compressor is more than several years old and has done me well up to this point.

One day, all of a sudden, it just started to hum/buzz when plugged in, which it is still doing.

I unplugged it for a couple of days to let the motor cool off and let the overload switch supposedly reset, according to the manual I have.

I have never taken the shroud off to inspect the motor; by the way, what kind of screws hold this shroud on. I cannot tell by the manual, it only gives a part #. I'd like to repair the problem myself, but maybe not ! Any suggestions ?

Compressor Shroud attachment screws
by: Jerry Staub

Does anyone out there know specifically what type of screws hold the motor shroud on to a Craftsman vertical compressor model number 919.165570. I know there is a part # for the screws, but I can't seem to find the right type of driver to remove the shroud. These screws are countersunk a ways as to where I can't see what type of head these screws have. Please help

Thank you,

Compressor motor hums

Not an unusual problem, Jerry, so there's a troubleshooting page on this site about just that.

See the troubleshooting section, and read the page on humming air compressors for some tips and suggestions.
