919.165060 air leaking problem

I have a Craftsman up right Air compressor Model number919-165060. The problem I am having is the compressor runs and builds pressure. Once it shuts off I can hear air leaking from the valve that is fed from the pipe that comes back from the tank which is mounted on the side of the power switch.

Do I need a new pressure switch or is that the pressure switch ?

Can that valve be cleaned or serviced. The compressor is 125\95 psi rated. Is the pressure switch the actual switch housing or the small side attached valve that comes back from the tank.

Thanks

air leaking from pressure switch on Craftsman
by: ICS

The problem is not the pressure switch. It is doing exactly what it should.

The check valve that screws into the tank from the feed line from the pump to tank is stuck open. It should be replaced. Don't try to clean it. It probably has carbon build up or a broken spring.

They don't cost much. Replace it.
