7.5 IR rotary compressor turns off by itself?

Thought was overheating and shutting down, but is not hot now.

Have to turn it back on several times through the day? Any ideas?

It's full of oil and not overheating.

Most likely a weak coil on the contactor.

Check your oil temp in and out of the cooler. You should see a 30 degree drop in a clean cooler.

Also, does it idle a lot? (run unloaded) I have had compressors that did not overheat as long as they were making air (loaded) but as soon as they would blow down and idle, they would heat up.

In that case, it could be as simple as a new oil filter.

Also make sure that the cooler lines are not clogged. That would cause the oil temp to rise when it idles.

If everything is fine there, make sure it is unloading at the correct pressure. Could be contacts sticking in the pressure switch.

It could also be electrical connection in the starter coil or another control relay.

Intermittent problems are the worst ones. It costs a lot to pay a field service tech to just watch it until it shuts down.

I hope this helps.

There's a bunch of those - can you narrow it down a bit?

Model? or at least tank mount? dryer? Voltage? Etc.

Have you verified the power in is OK?

How much is it used? I.E., how much load? Does it stop while there is demand, or when it's idle? Etc.
