61454 Air compressor, not restarting

I am on my 2nd compressor, I returned the first one for ,this same issue. The compressor will run up to its shut off set point But when it gets done to the start up point it struggles to come on. then trips the breaker. if I take to pressure in the tank down to blow 10psi the motor starts with no problem. Is this a check valve issue, or an adjustment issue. I really don't want to take this one back as well.

Unless it's the same batch, it might be a remote guess that it's the compressor that's the problem, yet it could be.

Difficult compressor starting as you describe it is first diagnosed as a questionable unloader valve. Make sure yours is actually unloading when the pressure reaches cut out and the compressor stops.

Then, typically, it's an electrical issue, resolved by having a clean and adequate power supply, no extension cord being used, and then we move on to look at the the start capacitor as being problematical.

I am not sure what you mean by the "start valve", but if you are referring to the pressure switch, it's clearly working, as power flows to the motor.

If by "start valve" you refer to the capacitor, it could be that.

First, though, is the unloader working? If so, then see the page on this site showing how to test the start capacitor.

My compressor is plugged directly into my shops 20 amp outlet and my old compressor was plugged in to, not the problem... I believe that the start valve is no good, and needs a better one. Because the pump starts just fine under 10 psi. But the motor cannot start if the pressure is above that.it runs all the way up to 125, then tried to restart at 90psi but it won't unroll I depressurize the tank.

Charles, what's the distance from the electrical panel to the socket where you plug in the compressor (approximately), the amperage of the fuse or the breaker in that panel, and are you using an extension cord to power the compressor please?
