60 gal. sanborn tank cleaning

Hi I have a 60 gal. Sanborn compressor.I cant drain the tank.I removed the petcock and the tank still holds pressure.Can I remove the large nut on the side of the tank and try to clean the drain hole from the inside? Thanks for any help.

Thanks, but I tried that with the petcock removed.I hit a solid mass.I will try it again with more force.

Poke wire into tank

If you do, just be careful that you don't poke too hard to possibly damage the drain itself, and a little pressure in the tank will help blow the crap out once you get it loosened.

It probably won't be easy, but sure, you can try that.

But can't you just poke a wire or something into the drain hole (with little to no pressure in the tank!)?
