Compressor won't shut off even after surpassing 135psi and safety valve activating. Replaced entire pressure switch with new but compressor still runs on.

26 gallon CH - problem solved!
by: Nick Kinakin

Found the problem. New pressure switch is adjustable. Supposed to have been preset to 135psi from factory. I turned adjustment down a few turns and now compressor unloads at 135psi as per pressure gauge.
Thanks for your help.

26 gallon CH compressor - Nick
by: Bill

The symptom you write about certainly suggests that the 26 gallon CH compressor is with the pressure switch.

Can I assume that the new switch has the same start and stop pressure levels as the old, or at least close?

While, if you've done it a bunch, changing switches is pretty straightforward, sometimes the terminals in the switch can be confusing, so you need to check and make sure that you've actually wire the switch to separate the line power from the motor power.

If you've got power running through the switch to the motor, and the pressure in the tank is moving above the cut out pressure setting of the switch, then it's pretty much got to be the switch that's the issue.
