1990 Leroy Somer 184T Will Not Start

I have a Leroy Somer 184T 5hp single phase motor. I was running it from a fused disconnect and had to relocate to compressor to another location.

I relocated the compressor and accidentally swapped two of the four motor terminals.

The motor hummed for a second and the stopped.

I changed out both start and run capacitor thinking i may have done some damage there but now i realize that the damage must be internal.

I have verified that the fuses in the disconnect are still good and that i have power to the capacitors. My question is do you think there is any thermal protection at the windings? and if so would it be worth the time and costs to repair?

thermal?

I've only seen that in smaller fan-type motors, but it's possible.

Unless you want to take it to a motor shop, you may as well take it apart and see if that's the case. It'll be on the end of one of the windings, probably in plain sight, near or in the laminate part.

Let us know if you find anything interesting...

There was no smoke not even a hint of burnt electrical.

That is why i believe that I maybe tripped or blew a thermistor or some form of thermal protection.

I gave the make and model hoping some one would be familiar with the equipment.

I won't ask how that happened.

Did you let the smoke out?

But now that you have it wired correctly, you see open across the input?

You can check behind the wire box and see it anything melted there, but if not it's rewind or recycle time, I'm afraid.

Good luck.
