1975 Mod. 397570 air compressor won't shut off.

Can't get the compressor to reach any pressure I try on the regulator knob. It just keeps running until the pop-off valve releases air. I know this is unsafe, so don't use it. Would it be the regulator and if so how much is a replacement. 1975 Mod. 397570

Made for Craftsman. 1 hp.

Melben won't shut off
by: Bill

Are you sure this is a Melben, Jim?

Regardless, the symptoms suggest that it is the pressure switch that has failed.

I'm not sure from your post if you are confusing the regulator and the pressure switch, or are not too sure about what regulators do?

Both a complete explanation of what the compressor regulator is and does, and the same for the pressure switch can be found linked from the sitemap or troubleshooting pages on this site.

The same can be said for finding a replacement pressure switch.

Please browse the sitemap and troubleshooting pages for links to the details you need, and add a comment here if more help is needed.
