Compressor starts fine until 50 PSI. then slows down quit a bit and speeds back up, back and forth until cut off at 135 PSI.

Builds pressure to about 35 pounds then wont build any more and keeps running, but if you turn the unit upside down and kick it, it will fill the rest of the way up and cut off when full.

Daniel, you turn your compressor upside down and kick it? Hmmmm?
I take it that its not an oil lubed unit?
Maybe have a look at this page about why compressors won't build pressure.
Cheers,
Bill
I have an alton AT 01204-6 2-1/2 horse 6 gallon air compressor. It use to work fine. Now it just hums when plugged in and trips the breaker. What can I try to do? Where can I find a manual on this model?

You posted this under Pressure Switch Issue, yet I don't think your compressor problem has anything to do with your pressure switch.
I think either your motor start capacitor is pooched, or you've got an "increased load" condition on the motor, and it can't overcome that load to start, draws too many amps, and pops the breaker.
Under troubleshooting there is a page for posting Manuals Wanted.
Cheers,
Bill
