compressor capacity - work out the cfm

by Kevin
(australia)

is there a formula to work out the cfm for a range of operating pressures? Most manufacturers rate their equipment at 100psi. If I want to use a machine at say, 120 psi, is there a formula to calculate the new cfm?

I am trying to specify a flow meter and do not know the appropriate range.

increase the cfm to 55

I have a truck compressor 120 psi @ 800 rpm with 28 cfm and want to increase the cfm to 55 what do I need to do

Is suspect that your only option is to get a bigger compressor, Kenny.

I don't know about truck compressors, yet if the existing one is giving you 28 CFM, even if you increased the RPM (assuming the compressor was designed for that) you would need to go a long way to get to the flow that you want.

Air requirement 17 CFM (500l/min) will 18.8 CFM @ 90 psi work?

I have a blasting systems that can push out 130 psi with 17CFM. I seen a compressor that is 5 HP, 18.8 CFMs @ 90 psi, 9 gal. twin tank, I don't know much about compressors and I was wondering if this compressor will allow my blaster to fully function @ 130 psi?

You know the economy is rough and I don't want to spend the money on something if it's not going to run fully functionally.

Appreciate your help.

Lost and confused lady with no experience in compressors.

My thoughts are that you likely will not be happy with the 5 HP compressor, Violet. It is not likely that it will give you the 17 CFM at 130 PSI that you require.

If you want to be sure, short term rent the comparable 5 HP compressor to test its capabilities for your shop.

It were my shop, I'd probably be looking at a 7.5 HP, with 100% duty cycle, and the capacity for 150 PSI (preferably more - 200 PSI would suit me better) at the 17 CFM.
