wont turn on

i was using 10 horsepower compressor and it shut off and would not turn back on the motor is fine it turns its like the switch wont turn it on

A 10 HP compressor is going to be, at least, 220 VAC, so if you are not really comfortable with electricity, call a repair person.

You say the switch doesn't turn it on. What switch? An external breaker put in on the install, or one that came with whatever type of air compressor it is?

When you switch it to on, is power actually flowing to the motor starter?
