Won't start well

Compressor stopped one day and had to be turned by hand to get it to move (very hard to turn) but once it was turned over it would run for a short time. It would slow down and stop and then the motor would only buzz. If I gave it a few minutes and then a spin it would do the same short run again. Took the motor apart and the wrapping on the windings appear to be burnt off and crumbled. Do I need a motor? Can this one be fixed?
Compressor is a Campbell Hausfield 8 gal model

Hey Dave. Nice to hear from you. I'm a former resident of the Oak Leaf Road!

It certainly sounds like the motor is pooched.

I know there are companies that rebuild (rewind) electrical motors.

Hewitt (Brockville) Ltd

Sell & rewind electric motors, as do others. You should take your motor to them for an evaluation.

Cheers,

Bill
