Motor is a 5 hp century. Compressor is a 50 gallon 5 hp Campbell hausfeld.

220v 5hp 15 amp compressor on a 30 amp breaker blows main panel 100 amp breaker.

Wired from pressure switch: 2 hots to breaker, ground to neutral on panel.

Hi all, just joined. Don't know if this has been addressed or not but here goes.

First of all a single phase 5 HP 220v motor with dual caps draws 19 or more amps FLA. You have a 5 PEAK HP motor which is a scam buy the manufactures to impress you. Peak HP is basically the HP delivered as the motor is burning up. A 3 hp dual cap motor on 220 V draws 15amps FLA.

Is you compressor head unloading when it shuts off. Also the neutral wire goes to the panel ground screw not the neutral terminal even though they are basically the same.

I'm guessing you've got a slow-blow breaker on the 30A...

Check for shorts on the compressor.

Verify motor wiring if voltage or directional options.
