IR - 2 wires coming out of the housing

by dave power
(ireland)

i was given an ingersoll-rand air compressor, there are 2 wires poking out of the housing,to start the compressor you have to give the fan a quick 'flick' to get it to run, what kind of switch would have been connected to these 2wires??

You have to give a quick "flick" to the motor fan in order to get your compressor to run?

Geeze, that's a new one on me.

I don't have a clue. Does your compressor have a pressure switch? Is this the housing that the wires come out of? When you "flick" the fan, do the wires touch briefly, or not?

Sorry, too many questions and not enough info for me even to guess what's what.

Cheers,

Bill

no the 2 wires do not touch,if i do 'touch' the wires together the fan does move slightly(only a couple of mm)the only switch on the compressor is the on/off where the main live feed enters,if there should be a pressure switch on the 2 wires what kind would it be????

Can I install a (IR) automatic drain valve model#X51-02-000?

by Jim
(Monrovia, CA.)

Want to install on a Speedaire compressor model#1NNF8 at the bottom where the pitcock drain valve is located. Is there enough clearence to install the Ingersoll Rand automatic drain valve?

Jim, if there isn't, simply thread an elbow into the drain port, after you have removed the existing drain plug, and bring the auto drain out to one side. That will work fine.

Make sure the pressure's gone and the power's off before you start.

Cheers,

Bill

Stock start capacitor failed after about a year. Replaced with Dayton model, same specs and blew after 3 months. Purchased another Dayton and blew instantly. Any suggestions?

start cap

Sounds like your motor may be failing.

You could try a higher rated cap (voltage, not mfd), but that may well blow too, or possibly do (more) damage to the motor. Could be motor start switch is not opening. Best get a motor shop to check it, or google for how to test.
