Generally i have seen horizontal type of compressors than vertical one, what is the difference between these two and which one is better?

Hello Ravindra. Very nice to hear from you, and welcome too to all visitors from India. And I get a bunch. :-)

The answer to your question is that "we prefer" them, at least the owners of the ones you've seen.

Next time you see a vertical and a horizontal compressor, have a closer look. I'll bet you'll note that the compressor pump (head and motor) are in a horizontal plane, and the only thing different between the horizontal and the vertical compressor is the orientation of the storage tank.

For purposes of footprint, at least for the smaller compressor pumps that are approximately the same horizontal length as their tanks, there's no sense in making those smaller compressors with tanks that are vertical, as those types of compressors are meant to be portable, and an too large increase in height could lead to instability.

The really big compressors, 25HP and up, often are demand type, and don't have a tank at all, yet their pump and motor will be normally installed in a horizontal plane.

Cheers,

Bill
