Whistle sound when compressor builds pressure

by Vanessa
(Calgary)

Hi my compressor was left on over night and ran a little hot. I did an oil change and started it up and all is fine but it does make a high pitch whistle noise for a few min while building pressure. I checked the intake filter and that has nothing to do with it. Any thoughts? Thanks, Vanessa

Vanessa, do you recognize the tune? :-)

If you note no other changes in the operation of your compressor than that, then, don't worry. If the change as a result of being overheated caused damage that shortens the life of the air compressor, so be it.

Things that might cause a whistle sound might be the intake valve might be warped a bit, maybe the check valve is not opening fully, difficult to be sure.

So, press on, and one day you may have to fix a failed compressor, and even then, the repair may not have anything to do with this incident of compressor overheating.

Cheers,

Bill
