WHEN SWITCH TURNED ON THE COMPRESSOR WONT RUN

WHEN SWITCH TURNED ON THE COMPRESSOR WILL TRY TO GO BUT THEN STOPS,TURN SWITCH ON AND OFF SEVERAL TIMES AND THE COMPRESSOR WILL EVENTUALLY START TO RUN AND BUILD UP PRESSURE.EACH TIME THE SWITCH IS TURNED ON THE COMPRESSOR WILL TRY TO GO COUPLE SECONDS UNTIL IT FINALLY STARTS.SEEMS LIKE IT NEEDS TO BE PRIMED.ON TIMES WHEN THE PRESSURE REACHES 100 PSI IT WILL BLOW OFF .THIS IS A 5 GALLON TWIN TANK CHAMPION COMPRESSOR.

Can you get a meter on the wire from the switch to the motor?

With the tank empty of air, turn on the switch, and see if power is flowing to the motor circuit.

From the sounds of your compressor problem, if it were mine, I'd be looking at a switch / pressure switch first, and then the start capacitor next.

Cheers,

Bill

compressor does not run
by: daniel

My compressor is still new and used twice to inflate my car tyres. The problem is that, when switched on, there is a sound that power is going in to the motor but it wont run. I checked the oil and its still full. It sounds more or less the same as in this post. Any idea what it could be?

Did you drain the tank of air, close the drain valve, and try to start it again?
