What type or compressor is most energy efficient?

I heard that Rotary Screw Compressors are more energy efficient then piston compressors. Is this true? Or is this just a sales ploy to sell the more expensive rotary units.

Daniel, that's a bit hard to answer if the parameters of the actual compressors are not considered.

What flow do you require at what pressure? A lower pressure piston compressor may be more efficient than a higher pressure output rotary.

Any reputable air compressor dealer should be able to show you the efficiency figures of their air compressor, and then, relate that to the actual cost of running their compressor. Compare those figures.

You are on the right track. It's the cost of running and maintaining an industrial air compressor that will far outweigh variances in the purchase cost. Go for the most efficient, and the one with the better warranty. You will save money in the long run.

Cheers,

Bill
