What the heck is the name to the valve/nipple thing on the compressor intake

by Fred
(Oregon City,Or, usa)

Well to keep it simple my craftsmen 1.5HP 12Gal Horizontal air compressor modal# 919.155613 is not sustaining more then 20psi while the motor runs and runs, so I decided I would tear it apart the regulator looked fine no leaks, then I moved the shroud on the back covering the motor and low and behold on the otherside of the intake there is a small nipple type thing that seems to be there for emergency if the motor over compresses air the air can then be relesed through this nipple thing, well the air is continually leaking through it giving cause why it will not sustain more then 20psi. My problem is the manual does not have a part # for this and If I knew what the part's name is it would be a whole lot easier. . .
if you can see the brass nipple fitting thing on the right can someone plse identify this thing.
thanxs.

Howdy Fred. Thanks for your colorful description, and for sending in the photo.

I tried to see the "nipple thing", but when I blew up the photo you sent, the resolution went bad, and I couldn't see it clearly.

It looks like a sintered brass breather valve, but I can't be sure.

In your shoes, I would purchase a plug that fits the thread, and plug the hole. Run the unit and see what happens, but don't run it too long if you are not seeing an improvement.

I'd also do a close up shot of that fitting and send it in again.

The device is there for a reason, but I can't see it clearly enough.

My guess is that you've got a gasket problem inside the head, or your intake valve is failing... but I too would sure like to know what that "nipple thing" is.

Cheers,

Bill
