I have a 60gal 5hp ingersoll rand air compressor....... What size generator can I use to start and run the compressor??

While I think Sparky is being a bit overly conservative in his estimate, I'm sure 20KW would do it.

But that raises the question of why you would do that. For the price of the compressor plus the generator, you can probably just get a gas powered unit and be done with it for less money. Even if you need a generator to power other things, you can probably get away with a much smaller generator if it doesn't need to run a compressor.

...but probably at least 7500W peak, 3750W continuous.
