Blowing out oil fill cap?

by Howard
(Lake forest ca)

Husky compressor model 10228

Husky compressor model 10228

I have an almost new but hardly ever used Huskey 0.8 scrum at 90psi max 125 psi. Model # 10228.

Wanted to get it up and running to sell it.

Everything was working fine until the oil fill cap kept blowing out of it? It's not much of a cap. It slips into top above the oil level indicator. It looks like it's made to blow out if the crank case gets to much pressure? Why am I getting so much pressure in the crank case below the piston?
_______________
Well, Howard, simply, the typical causes of an oil fill cap blowing out are:

1) vent hole in cap is plugged

2) overfill of oil

3) a small amount of wear on the piston seal(s) is now a large amount of wear, allowing larger amounts of air to bypass the seals and pressurize the oil sump

Cheers,

Bill

Vent hole in cap?
by: Anonymous

Bill I do not see a vent hole in this cap? Its just a solid plastic cap? Can you tell me the part number for this cap?

Typically the inside of the cap has a foam insert, and there is a small hole through the plastic under this foam.

While it is possible your oil fill cap is not vented, if it were not, in time, your oil level in the sump would drop and the sump area would pull a vacuum or pull air down past the piston seals to stabilize the pressure in the sump.

I cannot located anything to do with your Husky 10228 compressor.

Another visitor posted this info: "Turns out Campbell Hausfield is the original mfr of the Husky line for Home Depot. Their website is chpower.com Their toll free number is 1-800-543-6400 " so you might try them, but you will need both the model number and serial number of the compressor to try and get assistance from them.

Husky Parts for model number WL651004AJ

Compressor made a big pop and motor runs rough and vibrates and won't pump up air

Not much point in trying to find parts if we don't know what's wrong with the compressor, Norman.

What does motor running rough really mean? Is the electric motor running intermittently, or, is the motor unable to run the pump due to mechanical issues inside it?

And what part of the compressor popped? Was it coming from the pump, the motor, where?

Cheers,

Bill

HUSKY HPA1581909.01

by JC SAN JUAN
(ORLANDO, FL)

I NEED TO REPLACE THE MOTOR ASSEMBLY FOR THIS COMPRESSOR. THE ONLINE PART RETAILERS WANT $214.00 FOR IT. MUCH MORE THAN WHAT I PAID FOR THE WHOLE COMPRESSOR. I HAVE ONLY HAD IT FOR 3 YEARS, BUT USED IT MAYBE TWICE. THE SEAL AROUND THE PISTON IS TWISTED. ANY SUGGESTIONS ON WHAT I CAN DO TO MINIMIZE THE COST OF REPLACING THIS MOTOR ASSEMBLY?

JC San Juan, motor assembly failing or a twisted piston seal, or both? I'm not sure from your post.

When you say motor assembly, do you just mean the motor itself, or what are you including.

If just the motor, remove it and visit an electric motor repair shop with it. Ask them to test to see what's wrong, and if it is truly pooched, then ask if they have a used similar motor you can buy cheap.

Failing that, look for a used compressor & replace the whole thing, or, look for a broken down compressor for parts. See my $10 compressor story on the video page.

Cheers,

Bill
