What kind of compressor do I need to inflate auto tires at home?

I have three cars with tires requiring about 30 psi. I want a compressor so I can inflate tires optimally at home. I want a unit that will plug into the AC outlet in the garage rather than battery or auto aux outlet. My friend, a car guy, recommended a 3/4 hp, 4 gal. pancake compressor. Any other ideas?

A small AC compressor will fill your tires slower than a larger one. Both DIY type air compressors will deliver air in the 100-150 PSI range depending on the brand.

A 3/4 HP is lots, a 1/2 HP will do the job, as will a smaller one.

However, when you get an air compressor, usually your compressed air needs grow as you find new toys that run with compressed air. So give some consideration to the longer term and read this information for more help on sizing your air compressor.
